Abstract – This paper highlights the educational and innovative value, for university students, of a methodological approach based on the principles of participatory and deliberative democracy. This has been the purpose of all phases of a project (selected within the Special Projects for Teaching funded by the University of Pisa) divided into four actions: designing the Course in Children’s Literature (starting from a survey for educational needs); scientific writing (and publication of a volume); organizing events (conferences, seminars, etc.); writing self-reports (for the final self-evaluation). All actions were carried out by a group of seven students in the fifth year of the Degree in Science of Primary Education – with the involvement, at some stages, of all students in the same cohort – who were able to experience various “democracy exercises” in their own university context.
