This article analyzes the main stages and issues that primary school teachers had to face to reach the position of schoolmistresses in the first half of XXth century. Going through the study of the set of rules in school, the analysis of data related to getting role and the interpretation of diaries and letters found in schoolmistresses’ personal files, the article wants to show how being part of female gender affected the entrance in management roles for women.
