Abstract – The contribution explores the phenomenon of students’ disaffection to university participation, understood as a lack of engagement and involvement towards their academic experience. After an exploration of the national and international literature on the topic, with a focus on the impact of the pandemic on these processes, a research conducted at the University of Padua is presented. The research involved students from the 2021 cohort enrolled in the first year of 18 bachelor’s degrees courses at the University of Padua. The study explored their participation and involvement in extra-curricular activities, and the results highlight the impact that the health and social challenges of that period, combined with the complexity of the school-university transition, had on the students’ experience
