Abstract

The concept of Bildung, defined already during the Middle Ages but focused during Romanticism has been also very important among many German and European philosophers of 20th century and it could be considered a significant common point of many international pedagogical theories. The paper aims to deepen the contribution thatch two interdisciplinary authors like Martha Craven Nussbaum and Amartya Sen can offer to think about a “new” model of Bildung, able of responding to the demands of contemporary society and of building an actual idea of citizenship. They are two authors that, in addition to having significant links between them, offer many important ideas for pedagogy, Starting from the link between development and freedom, they believe that the enhancement of educational capital is more important that economical capital, the education, the Bildung should promote an economic and social growth, according to human well-being.
