Adult education in Portugal: Reflections between past and present

In this paper I consider some important historical phases in the development of Adult Education in Portugal, in the attempt to compare past and present choices in this matter. I conclude that there is not only an evident element of discontinuity in the process of Adult education, but this process is also marked by advances and setbacks, which are closely related both to internal politics and ideology, on the one hand, and to international trends, on the other hand.
