Abstract

The language of Eutropius' Breviarium shows few traces of Latin linguistic evolution in late Antiquity: the most important of them refer to verbal morfosintaxis. The style is characterized by predominance of coordination and repetition, especially in the first part of the opera, dedicated to the history of Roman Republic. A lexicological approach reveals a wide use of the most common military expressions and an impressive frequency of words concerning with political virtues of Roman emperors: the word choice indicates the author's personal ideology of power.
